This was taken from the passenger window, at an In & Out drive-thru.

I’ve always liked birds. I had two cockatiels and parakeets when I was a kid, and a pair of Java finches, as a youngster in Japan, which I released to the wild; much to my family’s dismay. Maybe it’s the fact they they’re related to dinosaurs, and I favor them by association. I could watch them for hours—whether resting, swimming, or taking flight: pigeons on a wire, owls perched on a branch, gulls and pelicans soaring over the Pacific, waterfowl floating on a lake, and hummingbirds hovering from flower to flower. Maybe it’s their ability to fly(sorry, most), that freedom to wander without a care in the world, that sparked a connection in me.
